More homes were built in 2025 in South Australia than in any other year as the State Government continues to deliver record breaking housing growth.

According to ABS Building Activity Data, 13,514 were completed in South Australia 2025, 1,600 more than were built in 2024.

On top of this, 14,700 homes commenced construction in South Australia – an increase of 2,700 compared with 2024.

The momentum created by the significant focus on housing policy within the Premier’s Housing Roadmap has set the pace for the State Government to deliver on its target to build 13,500 homes each year.

The Premier outlined in a key address to the Council for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) in the lead up to last month’s state election, the need for 13,500 homes to be built year-after-year in South Australia to deliver on the state’s incredible economic opportunities.

South Australia saw a 22% rise in commencements and a 14% increase in completions from 2024 to 2025, which is stronger than the national growth rates of 16% for commencements and a 3% drop in completions, demonstrating South Australia's strong performance in the housing sector.

Building more homes for South Australians was a central focus of the State Government’s re-election pitch at last month’s state election.

The plan commits $1 billion to fast-track strategic land and apartment development, $140 million to renovate vacant public housing, $29 million to train 1,000 new tradies to build more homes and a significant expansion of the government’s innovative Rent To Own scheme to 2,000 more homes.
