A new studio apartment building for women at risk of homelessness has been completed, as the State Government continues to increase the number of public homes for South Australians who need them.

Tucker Street is a six-storey, 50 studio apartment complex delivered by the SA Housing Trust and constructed by well-known South Australian builder Mossop Group Pty Ltd.

Tucker Street will be managed by the Housing Trust, with on-site support services for tenants to be provided by not-for-profit organisation YWCA Australia.

Tucker St includes five accessible studio apartments for tenants with mobility requirements, spaces for services to meet with tenants, a common area, a courtyard, multi-use spaces and a communal garden for well-being.

Each apartment includes a modern bathroom, kitchen, and internal laundry, a private balcony, air-conditioning, energy-efficient appliance and a dedicated on-site bike-space.

Tenants will be able to utilise meeting rooms for appointments and opportunities to connect with their community.

YWCA’s on-site Community Engagement Officer and a Service Delivery Caseworker will help tenants establish housing stability and successfully manage their tenancies, as well as engage with in-reach community and health services.

YWCA has 140 years of experience in supporting women and families.
The apartments are located near essential services, close to high frequency bus services including the City Connector Bus, greenspace and recreation at Rymill Park and major CBD shopping and service precincts, making community connections accessible.

Earlier this year, independent data released by the Productivity Commission showed that the State Government officially delivered the first significant net increase to South Australia’s public housing stock this century.
