Construction has begun on the next generation of Housing Trust walk up flat sites as the State Government continues to deliver safer, greener and more functional public housing that better integrates with the wider community

The SA Housing Trust is delivering a new $30 million six-storey, 48-apartment public housing project on Anzac Highway at Camden Park, with builder Sarah Constructions breaking ground on the site today.

The contemporary two-bedroom apartments completely replace 48 outdated Trust units and have been funded through the Federal Government’s Social Housing Accelerator program and the State Government through the SA Housing Trust.

The apartments are 8.7-star energy rated, featuring double glazing on some windows, precast concrete, modern appliances and increased levels of thermal insulation.

The complex is well connected to public transport and other community services and is adjacent to greenspace with a walking/running trail through a local reserve nearby.

The building is expected to be completed by November 2027 and will include 60 on site car spaces, enough parking for each apartment and more for guests, including covered parking in an undercover car park.

The higher density complex also creates space for future housing opportunities at this site, with options for future development currently under consideration.

The Housing Trust will seek to mitigate the risk of antisocial behaviour when offering properties to potential residents through careful tenant selection.

In finalising the design, the Housing Trust has listened to community feedback about parking, the visibility of rubbish bins and the need to improve the overall appearance of the site.

Direct advocacy from community members has resulted in significant design changes to the project, including increasing car parking from 30 to 60 spaces, increasing of landscaping to the perimeter boundary to improve the site’s overall appearance and additional screening to counter overlooking issues.

Land is available for on-site parking for trades during the build, meaning residents will not have trades parking in nearby streets.

The State Government is making public housing sites safer through a targeted range of refurbishments (like at 61 Walkerville Terrace Gilberton) or complete rebuilds, like at these new Camden Park apartments.
