The State Government will upgrade a notorious intersection on Curtis Road, taking the total commitment for Curtis Road upgrades to almost $300 million.

The State Government has a plan to fix the intersection of Curtis Road and Andrews Road, rated by RAA as the second riskiest intersection in Adelaide last year.

More than 21,000 vehicles travel along Curtis Road every day and that number is set to increase as nearby housing developments continue to progress.

A new four-way signalised intersection will critically unlock approximately 1,500 dwellings in adjacent housing developments.

It will facilitate the opening of a new shopping centre, improve access to adjacent shopping precincts with the increased economic activity to create approximately 150 jobs.

The State Government will contribute $15 million towards improving the intersection, with the City of Playford also committing $3.4 million as well as a contribution from the area development deed.

The developer is currently undertaking the detailed design work for this intersection

The design of the new intersection will ensure it would be compatible with any potential future duplication of Curtis Road.

State and Federal Governments have already made significant commitments to improve Curtis Road. Planning is well advanced on the $250 million level crossing removal with community consultation on preferred designs to be undertaken this year.

Meanwhile, major works are expected to start in the coming months on the new $30 million dual lane roundabout at the intersection with Heaslip Road.
