The State Government’s housing reforms continue to deliver record results for the industry, with more homes approved in SA than ever before.

According to ABS Building Approvals data, 1,701 dwellings were approved in August, a 24 per cent increase on July and 50 per cent higher than August 2025.

This is the highest number of monthly approvals since reporting began in July 1983.

South Australia’s 24 per cent monthly increase was the highest in the nation, with other state’s recording a decline.

Over the 12 months, a total of 15,874 dwellings were approved – that is 3000 more approvals than the 12,853 recorded in August 2022.

The record number of approvals demonstrate the resilience of the SA industry despite interest rate and other cost of living pressures as well as the success of the broad range of planning and building measures introduced through the Housing Roadmap.
